Port Broughton

2006 Event Stories

Saturday 20th May 2006

Seven club cars and two prospective new members met at the Caltex on Port Wakefield Road Bolivar for the night cruise to Port Broughton. The cruise set off just after 3:30pm with Andrew leading at a steady pace, which allowed everyone to stay together.

It was just after the Yorke Peninsula Coast Road turn off that we struck road works, but with everyone taking it easy we made it through without any new stone chips.

We carried on through Kulpara and Paskeville to Kadina where we stopped for a short break, before continuing on to Wallaroo. As we were ahead of schedule, cruise leader Andrew took us on a short tour of Wallaroo. Then it was onto the Port Broughton Hotel for dinner, where we slightly overwhelmed the staff. In the end everyone got what they ordered, and with good food and great prices everyone enjoyed their meals. After dinner everyone headed over the road to the local deli for ice cream.

Then it was time to farewell Ray, who had brought along the fishing rods and planed to spend the night fishing at either Port Broughton or Wallaroo, and head off on the trip home via Bute before rejoining the road to Port Wakefield at Kulpara. Andrew was again leading at a nice steady pace, but some decided not to cruise back with the group and went ahead on their own. The remaining cars cruised on back enjoying the night driving, returning at around 10pm.

A well organised and run cruise. The only thing missing was the customary wrong turn and U-turn.
