This year there was a total of four cars entered and due to differing work commitments everybody got to the Mount Gambier motel when they could. For members who haven’t attended the Mt Gambier show, the motel is a few hundred metres from the fitness centre where the show is held (makes life easier). Anyhow when we arrived Gordi, Scott, Chris and Paula had already arrived at the motel so we found them amidst the cleaning essentials to be found when preparing for a show. Mal and I booked in then gave our beasty a wash (picked up a few bugs along the way) . It was about 4.30pm when rain threatened so we all decided to move up to the indoor centre and start setting up our display - which was fords 80th birthday, reasonably simple to organise, presents here - balloons there and some banners and posters mixed in. Some of us went to the pub for tea leaving others to put in their finishing touches to the cars. Back to the motel for a few drinks and catch up on all the gossip. Day two: Saturday saw everyone at the show approx 8.00am in the morning, quick wipe down of the cars, Paula rocked up with the balloons which we set up, quick wipe here quick wipe there and we were ready for the public at 12.00pm. Presentations were held at the south-eastern, we rocked up about 7.30pm had meals and then presentation started. Out of our club Gordi was voted top modern contemporary and was in the top ten cars. Chris was voted 2nd modern contemporary. Scott was voted top 1998 onwards, and Mal was voted 2nd special interest. The club was voted Best Club Display. Day three: Sunday saw us all back at the show in the morning with our trophies put near the cars so the public could tell who won what. Show finished at 3.00pm then we all proceeded to pack up the display and head back to the motel. For tea we managed to get hold of some of our members at Mt Gambier (Tony and Terri) and conned them into coming out for a meal where we all introduced ourselves and talked about cars, the club, cars etc etc. Unfortunately Mal and myself had to depart shortly after the meal and head back home so Mal could work Monday morning. All in all this was our first Mt Gambier car show, and although there weren’t as many cars as the year before I thought it was a good weekend, had a good time.
