FPV Family Day Weekend

Previous 2005 Event Stories Next

We all had decided that we would leave Adelaide early Friday morning. This gave us an extra day in Melbourne and we made a weekend out of the trip. We all met at Tailem Bend at 5am, we all congregated around at the BP with our toasted sandwiches as we waited to make sure we would all be travelling together. Steve and Deb were up before 9am yes that’s right before 9am, we met them in Horsham for bacon and egg rolls at Subway. It gave us a good chance to fill our tanks and stomaches and stretch our legs again before we carried on with our adventure.

We saw quite a few cars travelling in the opposite direction, including a black Lancer whose driver was so taken by the beauty of our cars he drifted to the wrong side of the road swiped Brenton’s car (just hit the mirror) at 110kph it was lucky that all we were left with was a paint sample.(always wondered what the AU would look like in black) Once in Melbourne, on the freeway a flying piece of plaster board nearly hit us too. Think maybe someone was trying to tell us something?

The long drive was definitely not lonely for anyone; two-way-radios covered that! Between the comical chatter and music being played the radios were also useful for warning the other drivers of traffic hazards along the highway as well as giving directions in Melbourne when the group was split up by the hectic traffic. Before we went to our caravan park we stopped at the FPV merchandise outlet and spent a few pretty pennies on some lovely trade mark apparel before heading to the caravan park for some R’n’R.

First night we had pizza and drinks (lots and lots of drinks!) where civilized conversation was taken to a whole new level. It was a fantastic first night and everyone had lovely things to say about one another.

Saturday was fun as some of the girls decided to try to find their way around Melbourne on the trams. Good! Easy? Lucky there was someone sitting behind us who overheard our confusion and gave us directions. Once we got to Richmond Rd, we had a great time, we picked up quite a few bargains that day. The boys also had lots of fun on the Saturday, they went to Geelong to a Ford dealership and had a look at some of the Stone Brothers gear, bought some more merchandise and had a look at some more cars. After that is was time for the boys to do some work. The drive to Melbourne was long and the cars needed some TLC. Saturday was completed with Chinese Take Away more booze and good company.

Sunday, the day!

Early morning got us to FPV to set up without too much trouble. The display looked great. Once the coffee machines were set up we could wake up enough to go and enjoy the other displays that were on. There were lots of good things to see, every club had a display worth looking at. Two of the FPR drivers were also there for autographs and a quick chat. Car panels from last seasons FPR cars were auctioned off to raise funds for the Victorian Guide dogs association. Scott and Andrew, two members from our club were chosen to do some judging. At the end of the day the Tickford, FPV car club of SA won two categories, Brenton got an award for his red AU XR6 for ‘Best XR6 1998 on’, and Gordi got an award for his blood orange BA GT for ‘Best BA GT’

That night we went out to dinner, more food, more booze and a good time had by all.

The whole weekend we had so much to do and had so much fun it didn’t seem to be long enough. I know I’m already writing a list of “MUST DO’s” for next year. Hope to see you there.
