Sunday the 18th April was our very first mystery cruise with the club. We headed off in the morning to Victor Richardson Drive at Adelaide Oval. Being the first to arrive, we had a look around while waiting for everyone else to turn up. By about 10.30AM ALMOST everyone going on the cruise were there EXCEPT Steve and Deb who were deciding which car to bring- The Cougar or the Great 8. Meanwhile Wayne had to fill up the car with petrol. Shortly after the cougar turns up and we have a meet and greet session - Met new member Matt for the first time. Approximately 11.15 AM it was decided to head off on our merry way, With Marcus in the lead we headed out of Adelaide via North East Rd. Unfortunately, due the traffic we ended up split into two groups, Group 1 consisted of 5 cars, Group 2 had 7. So with Adrian leading the second group (Which we were part of) and not knowing our destination, we kept driving hoping to eventually meet up with the others along the way. After a while we pulled up along the road somewhere between the Chain of Ponds and Gumeracha where Adrian informed us that due to radio problems (Flat Battery) and hit and miss mobile phone reception, contact was finally made by phone with group 1 who were waiting for us the other side of the Williamstown turnoff. A trademark U Turn by everybody followed and we headed back to the Williamstown turnoff and lo and behold there was group 1 about 100 or more metres up the road waiting for us. Following a discussion we learned we were actually heading for Tanunda. However a pitstop was needed so a stop was planned for Williamstown. We stopped for around 20mins for drinks, nibbles, BATTERIES and whatever else was required. Departed for Tanunda this time as 1 main group and arrived at the Tanunda Club for lunch. Although the club is not normally open on Sundays they had opened up for a busload of people so therefore we could be catered for. Meals were typical Club/Pub meals and once ordered arrived after approx 30min. while waiting for the meal I (Debbie) had to donate more money to the club by way of the Pokies. With the meal over, some of the boys decided to go over to the model shop in the main street for a look around, while the rest of us attended the carpark party for the social side of things i.e. catching up on the gossip. After about half an hour, most everyone was back so it was decided to head off for home. Altogether, with the temperature in the low 20's, a total of 12 cars with just over 20 members all up, I think a good time was had by all. We may have had some problems along the way with communications but then again THAT'S ALL PART OF THE FUN. On the cruise we passed what appeared to be a Volkswagen Car Club 3 times, they appeared to be a Sunday cruise as we were. We had a good time and can't wait for our next cruise and hopefully we may meet some of the other members out there.
